OnlyLeaf.jpgSoftware GreenHouse is a joint effort of Microsoft India, Cynapse and Software Development teams, aimed at developers who want to develop mobile and embedded applications using the latest Microsoft Mobile technologies and platforms. Very similar to any reality show on television, this will span the entire life cycle of a “real” world product being developed by teams specifically for this purpose.

We've been working on providing instructions on setting up and using our Sync Engine project

This post has detailed step by step instructions on how to use the Publications Wizard to create a merge replication publication using the SQL Server Management Studio. It also explains on how to configure merge replication Web synchronization for the publication after it has been created using the Configure Web Synchronization Wizard and how to to permit anonymous Internet user to access the SQL Server publication.

Framework Release #1

Our first framework release for Sync Engine is ready and available for download!

The SyncEngine framework has been built as an open source, updateable and extendable platform. Users can use the APIs exposed by Sync Engine to perform synchronization custom to their applications. They can also extend the existing framework to incorporate new synchronization architectures.


Version 1 of the framework, released today on the 31st of January, 2007 contains the following features:
  • Merge Replication
  • Disconnected Web Services using Microsoft Client Software Factory (MCSF)
  • Message Queuing over Http

Approaches to data synchronization on Windows Mobile

The growing capabilities of mobile devices such as the Pocket PC, and their increasingly widespread usage within the commeSyncEngine.jpgrcial world, provide an opportunity for business solutions to broaden their spread to include remote and mobile workers. All of these may require access to the corporate IT system - in either a connected or a disconnected scenario, and data synchronization between a mobile device and the server is an essential component of such systems.

This document explains in brief three approaches to tackle the data synchronization problem:

1. Sql Server Merge Replication over Http.
2. Disconnected web services (using Disconnected Service Agent from Mobile Client Software Factory)
3. Message Queuing over http

After Bluejab, Software Greenhouse re-launches in a brand new avatar, with a brand new project, Sync Engine. This project will deal with new approaches to data syncrhonization on the Windows mobile platform.
